Geo Textiles
At slopes where the soil conditions, or inclinations, or the heights are unfavourable, it is suggested before or after hydroseeding to cover with geotextiles. The geotextiles play an important role in controlling erosion by protecting directly the soil and absorbing part of the kinetic energy of rain and run off water.
It has been found – after relevant applications – that the most appropriate geotextiles to reduce erosion are the organic, weighing 500 – 1,000 grams per m2.
The above have been proved experimental, but also in applications:
the erosion by run off water in slopes covered with organic geotextiles is the 1,1% of erosion of uncovered slopes, the run off water is reduced 65,4%, while simultaneously the grass germination is increased at 40%.
These organic meshes are decomposed during the biological cycle, adding organic matter to the soil. They are flexible and adapt to the conditions of the soil. Thanks to their pockets that are shaped by the horizontal and vertical fibres of their weaving, they contribute effectively to the sediment control. They decrease the transport of sediment, as they shape small barriers that slow down the runoff water and control the erosion.
